KOTA KINABALU: A heated argument between a policeman and his wife ended in tragedy when he was shot dead in front of their two children.
The 31-year-old corporal, is said to have been quarreling with his wife over some family matter in their apartment at Cyber City Phase 1 near here, when a shot was fired and hit him in the chest at about 9.40am yesterday.
A neighbour who heard the shot immediately went to the apartment to check and saw the corporal lying in a pool of blood in the living room.
The neighbour immediately called the police.
Sabah CID chief Datuk Salehhudin Abd Rahman, when met at the crime scene, said the corporal was already dead when police arrived.
“We are still investigating the motive and what actually happened in this case,” he said, adding that the incident was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
“We are not sure whether the shot was fired during a struggle or from afar but we hope to get more details after talking to the wife,” Salehhudin added.
The victim’s 28-year-old wife has been detained to facilitate investigations while a relative is caring for the couple’s two children, a five year-old girl and three-year-old boy.
A Steyr pistol was recovered at the scene.
The corporal worked for the Kota Kinabalu police department for six years.
He was involved in special operations and was allowed to carry a firearm out of office.
His body has been sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post mortem
