KOTA KINABALU: The High Court here has convicted nine Filipino nationals for waging war against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in connection with the Lahad Datu intrusion three years ago.

Among those found guilty Monday was Datu Amir Bahar Hushin Kiram, the son of the late self-styled Sulu sultan Ismail Kiram.

The nine were charged and convicted under Section 121 of the Penal Code that provides for the death penalty or a life sentence.

High Court judge Justice Stephen Chung also found them guilty of being a member of a terrorist group.

Also convicted as being a member of a terrorist group was Norhaida Ibnahi, the sole woman who was charged over the intrusion in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu.

Justice Chung aquitted another Filipino national, Basil Samiul, who was charged with soliciting support for a terror group.

He will hear mitigation from counsel N. Sivananthan and Abdul Ghani Zelika on Tuesday before passing sentence on those convicted.
