Johor bans 16 religious speakers from giving talks, preaching in Johor

JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor state government has banned 16 religious speakers from giving talks or preaching in Johor.
This is because the 16 are allegedly not aligned with teachings of the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
The ban is effective from Dec 31, 2015.
State Religious Affairs Committee chairman Abd Mutalip Abd Rahim said the 16 speakers were banned based on provisions in the Johor state constitution.
"The ban is based on the Johor state constitution and existing enactments which are aimed at protecting the sanctity of Islam," he said when commenting on a notice listing the 16 banned speakers which has gone viral on social media.
The notice said several speakers from outside Johor who came to preach in mosques or in public places in the state had caused confusion and brought discord to the Muslim community.
They include Perlis Mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, and Umno Youth executive council member Dr Fathul Bari Mat Jahaya,
The notice said the 16 speakers had preached teachings that were against those professed by the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah. - Bernama
