Police engaged two snatch thieves in an intense high-speed motorcycle chase from Setapak to Gombak, ended with them being arrested


KUALA LUMPUR: Police engaged two snatch thieves in an intense high-speed chase from Setapak to Gombak yesterday, which ended with the men being handcuffed.
The two thieves had at 1.50pm snatched a foreigner’s bag at a bus stop in Setapak. However, two policemen from the Wangsa Maju police station who were doing their rounds spotted the incident.
Wangsa Maju police chief Superintendent Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the two lance corporals, attached to the Motorcycle Patrol Unit, immediately gave chase.
"The suspects riding a Honda EX5 ignored police’s orders to stop, which led to a motorcycle chase.
“As they approached Taman Setapak, one of the thieves threw the bag they had snatched towards the pursuing policemen,” he said.
In the meantime, police despatched additional unites from the Setapak police station to join the pursuit and cut off the thieves’ getaway.
The criminals were cornered at Kampung Changkat Desa in Gombak, and were immediately arrested.
"Police checks revealed that one of the suspects, aged 22, had 17 previous criminal offences under his record.
"The case is being investigated for gang robbery."
Mohamad Roy said the police also managed to recover the stolen bag, which was returned to the victim.
