SETIU: Police detained two secondary school students after they rammed their motorcycle into a traffic policeman in Bandar Permaisuri on Monday.

Setiu District Police Chief DSP Elias Abu Bakar said on Tuesday that in the incident at about 5.30pm, the victim, Inspector Wan Zulkuflay Wan Mohamad, 55, was with other police officers when they stopped a car for a traffic offence at a traffic light junction in Bandar Permaisuri.

He said when the other officers were issuing a summons, a motorcycle ridden by the two students, both 17-years-old, arrived from the direction of Bandar Permaisuri heading towards Kuala Terengganu.

"The victim lifted his hand to stop the motorcycle about 50 metres from the junction for not observing the correct traffic flow, but the students did not stop but picked up speed and rammed into the victim," Elias said.He said this caused the victim to fall on to the road and suffered slight injuries on his palms, right elbow and pain in his right shoulder.
