IPOH: The man who opened fire at the police, rammed two through roadblocks and knocked down a traffic policeman during a chase on Wednesday has been nabbed.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said the 27-year-old suspect from Tanjung Rambutan was arrested at 12.15am Friday.
He said a police team arrested the suspect at Taman Cempaka near here.
“During the arrest, we found 12.2g of methamphetamine drugs wrapped in a transparent plastic on him.
“The suspect has been remanded for further investigations,” he said.
It was reported Thursday that the suspect, driving a red Proton Satria Neo, first rammed through a police roadblock in Jalan Sultan Nazrin Shah at 3pm Wednesday.
He was then chased towards Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah where he again rammed through another roadblock.
ACP Sum said four motorcycles gave chase, and the suspect opened fire and the policemen retaliated in self-defence. They then managed to hit and puncture his tyre as the chase led to Kampung Baru Tambun.
The suspect later abandoned his car and fled on foot towards the jungle near there.
The traffic policeman who was knocked down during the car chase has been hospitalised.
