Johor wildlife dept chief held over stolen rhino horn

JOHOR BARU: Police detained the director of Johor Wildlife Department for allegedly stealing an artifact belonging to the Johor Royal Museum.
State police chief Comm Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the suspect was detained when he surrendered himself at the Johor Baru Sentral police at around 9.40pm on Dec 25.
He said the 46-year old suspect had stolen the 100-year old rhinoceros horn which was placed under the sun at the museum office in Bukit Timbalan on Oct 21.
Comm Wan Ahmad said the suspect was attending a meeting with the Johor Tourism Department when he saw the artifact and decided to take it away.
"CCTVs recordings clearly shown the suspect had taken away the horn, " he told reporters.
