Despatch rider charged with causing mischief in car park fire

PETALING JAYA: A despatch rider who allegedly caused a fire at the Taman Jaya LRT car park has been charged with committing mischief at the Sessions Court here.
Budiman Shah Baharudin, 26, claimed trial Monday to a charge under Section 435 of the Penal Code.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Shafiq Hasim suggested that no bail be granted for Budiman considering the seriousness of the offence.
Budiman was believed to have committed the offence on Jalan Persiaran Barat at between 12.50pm and 1.15pm on Dec 21 after he allegedly threw a mineral bottle containing petrol at a grey Proton Wira belonging to the victim.
He also caused fire to five other cars and public property nearby worth RM449,600 in total.
Defence counsel Datuk Suraj Singh who represented Budiman requested the court to grant bail since he still lives with his parents.
"There is no reason for the accused not to come to the court and he has never been charged before," said Suraj.
Judge Manira Mohd Nor granted RM10,000 bail in one surety and set Jan 27 for next mention of the case.
