Motorist who disrespected Johor Sultan arrested
MUAR: Humility goes a long way and can prevent you from landing in hot water.
However, a 40-year old motorist plying the North-South Expressway learned it the hard way when he was arrested by the police for showing lewd and threatening hand signs to a motorcade escorting the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
In the 11.20am incident yesterday at KM95 south-bound of the highway, Sultan Ibrahim and his convoy was heading to Johor Baru when the suspect who stopped by the roadside to give way to the motorcade, lowered his window and showed vulgar hand gestures.
Johor police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the man’s disrespectful behaviour was witnessed by the ruler, who immediately ordered his royal security chief to inform the police.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and brought to the Ayer Hitam police station to get his statement recorded. Najumuddin said the suspect would be investigated for criminal intimidation with words or gestures intended to outrage the modesty of a person.
“The Sultan was heading back to Johor after visiting the Muar royal town, when he caught the man’s lewd behaviour. The suspect was tested negative for drugs.
“Initial investigations revealed that the suspect was on his way to his hometown in Parit Raja, Batu Pahat from his home in Puncak Alam, Selangor. He claimed that he was unaware that the ruler was in the car at that time. He is currently in custody,” said Najmuddin when contacted.
Najmuddin cautioned the public to remain tactful and civil in their disposition.
“The police will not hesitate to take action against those who violated the law,” he said.
