Cops arrest man who sparked car park fire
PETALING JAYA: The man who threw a bottle of petrol at his ex-wife’s car and set it ablaze has been arrested by police.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said the man, who is in his 20s, was picked up late Monday.
ACP Mohd Zani said the suspect is expected to be produced in court on Tuesday.
The man, who is going through a divorce, showed up at the car park near the Taman Jaya LRT, where the woman’s boyfriend was working, at 1.30pm on Monday only to see him getting into his ex-wife’s car.ACP Mohd Zani said earlier that the boyfriend, 20, was walking to the car when the ex-husband showed up on a motorcycle and approached him.
The boyfriend realised that the man was about to throw the bottle at the woman’s car which had the door open, as she was cleaning up the inside.
She, however, managed to jump out before the flames engulfed the car.
The man quickly fled the scene, leaving behind his slippers and helmet.
A fire quickly spread to five other nearby cars, ACP Mohd Zani said, adding that three loud explosions were also heard.
The explosions initially sparked rumours that a bomb had been set off and pictures of the fire went viral on WhatsApp.
Police later refuted the rumours, making it clear that there was no bomb.
Four cars were badly damaged in the incident.
