KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — DAP lawmakers Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng and Puchong MP Gobind Singh were ejected out of the Dewan Rakyat here today for interrupting the parliamentary sitting.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia ordered Lim to be kicked out first after the opposition MP tried to bring forward an emergency motion to debate the recent toll hike.
He then ordered Gobind to be ejected after he stood up to defend Lim.
Lim stood up to push for the motion after it was previously rejected by Pandikar on grounds that the issue could be debated in the 2016 Budget tabling on Friday.
"This is my seventh year here and whenever I reject the motion filed under Order 18 (1) and 18 (2), since when have I reviewed the decisions I made?
"When I reject a motion in the Dewan Rakyat or in my chambers, the decision is final," Pandikar said in raised tones, adding that Lim was being provocative by refusing to sit and make way for other parliamentary affairs.
After Lim was escorted out of the Parliament, Gobind proceeded to stand and defended his colleague.
"Tan Sri Speaker has to be honest and clear in whatever decisions made," he said.
However, the comment irked Pandikar who said that such a statement questioned his integrity and later ejected Gobind when the Puchong MP refused to retract his statement.
In a press conference outside the Dewan Rakyat later, Gobind said that he was merely stating basic principles, stressing that there must be honesty in parliamentary matters.
"I said to the Speaker, when a decision has been made, we have to show that the decision is correct so that there is no allegation of dishonesty," he said, referring to Pandikar's refusal to address the motion brought by Lim.
"The Hansard must carry the explanation…it's not about how angry the Speaker is…with full respect I find that he's very angry this morning. I mean you have to control your anger," Gobind added.
