KUALA LUMPUR: Frightened and locked inside her own bathroom, a mentally-challenged woman fell 23 storeys to her death as she tried finding her way out of the confined space by crawling out the window.
Her father, who was with her in their condominium in Section 5, Wangsa Maju, at around 11am Wednesday, could only helplessly hear the tragedy unfold from the other side of the door.
Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Mohd Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the contractor did all he could to get his 27-year-old daughter, who was also epileptic, out of the locked bathroom.
“The woman had taken the bathroom key, which was usually hung outside the bathroom, with her.
“The contractor was surfing the Internet when he realised that his daughter was locked inside the bathroom,” he explained.
Supt Roy said the contractor tried contacting the landlord for the spare key, but the latter was in Europe.
“He talked to his daughter, telling her how to unlock the door. He even tried breaking down the door.
“She might have been scared to the point of crawling out of the window,” he told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.
According to Supt Roy, the woman was disabled and last had a checkup about a week ago.
He added that the woman's two sisters were currently in Australia
