KUALA LUMPUR: The Government on Thursday filed a motion to suspend Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang from the Dewan Rakyat.
The motion tabled by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Azalina Othman Said (pic) reads: Gelang Patah MP had accused the Speaker of sabotaging the PAC's probe into 1MDB. The allegations made against the Speaker was serious and deemed contempt of the Speaker and the House.
Lim, who was in the Dewan, remained defiant, saying he never used the word "deliberate" in his remarks that he had accused Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia of abusing his powers by temporarily suspending the Public Accounts Committee proceedings on Monday.
"I challenge the minister (Azalina) to show the Hansard on where I had used the word deliberate.
"I have never used that word," said Lim.
Deputy Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee said he noted Lim's response.
"I accept that he does not want to retract the statement or apologise," said Kiandee. He then asked Azalina to table the motion.
Chaos ensued soon after with opposition lawmakers raising point of orders to prevent the motion from being debated.
Lawmakers on both sides exchanged arguments on the validity of the motion.
