Cops arrest six in connection with attack on Immigration officers
MALACCA: Police have arrested six men to facilitate investigations into the Wednesday night attack on Malacca Immigration Department officers during an operation at an entertainment outlet in Taman Melaka Raya here.
Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah (pic) said the men, aged between 24 and 57, were arrested in two separate occasions around Taman Melaka Raya on Friday and Saturday.
"Four men were arrested at around 4pm Friday, while two others were arrested Saturday at about 12.30am.
"The men are being remanded for four days for further investigations, and police will summon the immigration officers involved to identify the suspects," he told Bernama here today.
Shaikh Abdul Adzis said the police viewed the attack on the officers as serious and would be investigating the case under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using violence to scare public servants from performing their duties.
On Thursday the media reported that 19 Immigration Department officers and staff were attacked by over 40 thugs while they were conducting checks on an entertainment outlet on Wednesday
