Anthony Martial rejected bigger offers to complete dream transfer to Manchester United, confirms Monaco vice president
Anthony Martial rejected a bigger offer from an unnamed club in order to complete his dream move to Manchester United this summer, the Monaco vice president has said.
The France striker moved to Old Trafford on deadline day for a deal worth a potential £58million in a move that shocked the football world.
United were criticised for paying such a large fee for a player that was yet to make his full international debut, but the teenager has silenced his critics with four goals in five matches for Louis van Gaal’s side.
However, Vadim Vasilyev has told Spanish newspaper Marca that the French club had a larger offer for the striker, but that it was Martial’s dream to move to Old Trafford.
‘There was another club that offered even more than United,’ admitted Vasilyev.
‘I will not say how much, but the fixed price – without variables – it was even better.
‘And also they offered us to have him for a further year in Monaco. But the boy wanted to go to Manchester, it was his dream.
‘We let him go with the bonus of €30 million. Had it not been for so much money, he’d have stayed.’
