Recording Of DBKL Officer Allegedly Receiving A Bribe Goes Viral
KUALA LUMPUR: A video footage has emerged showing several individuals who are dressed in uniforms of the enforcement unit of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) allegedly receiving a bribe from a member of the public.
The video, believed to be captured by an onlooker who appears to be filming from a nearby building, was uploaded to a local Facebook page on Oct 4 before it was shared by several other social media platforms.
In the 39-second long video, two men dressed in DBKL uniforms are seen in the footage with one of them appearing to be taking the lead in the negotiation.
One of the man clad in DBKL uniform is seen talking on the phone with an unknown person before passing it on to the member of the public who is sitting nearby and waiting, and moments after the individual speaks to the unidentified person on the phone, he takes out the money and hands it over to the officer.
The footage has since gone viral, racking up a whopping 385,000 views in the span of less than a week.
Last month, a DBKL enforcement assistant was sentenced to 18 months' jail and fined RM10,000 by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court for corruption, involving RM1,000, three years ago.
In October 2014, 3 DBKL enforcement officers were jointly charged with two counts of receiving RM2,500 from restaurant owner Chew Hian Tat as an inducement to refrain from taking action against his restaurant which did not have valid business premise license. The restaurant owner was also fined RM1,000.
At press time, officials from DBKL were not immediately available to comment on the matter when contacted by Malaysian Digest.
