PUTRAJAYA: The police are only investigating the leakage of information on the 1MDB case and not targeting the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"They are investigating the leakage of documents and information that had been spread in social media.
"The authorities do not want to see information on an ongoing investigation being leaked," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Dr Ahmad Zahid said officers from other agencies would also be called in to help in the probe.
"Everything is done according to the SOP.
"Police are not targeting any agencies or personnel," he said after receiving a courtesy call from Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali here, Friday.
On Thursday, Bukit Aman had denied targeting the MACC and the involvement of a hidden hand in police investigations into the Commission.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said their focus was on the leakage of information, which contravenes the Banking and Financial Institutions Act (Bafia).
Noor Rashid was commenting on the string of arrests of MACC officers and raids on MACC offices over the past week.
He said the leak was not only about the supposed draft charge sheet against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, but also the leak of personal banking information which was against Bafia.
He said they were only conducting their investigations according to the facts, and if it points them to Bank Negara or other banking establishments, the police would investigate them too.
He added that the person responsible for the leak would not be protected under the Whistleblower Protection Act.
In a statement, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar echoed Noor Rashid’s views that the police were only performing their duty and were not acting on pressure or directives from anybody.
