    Kuala Lumpur will see its first street racing event on this weekend, with the starting grid overlooking the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.

    With the first KL City Grand Prix set to take place this weekend, StarMetro takes a look at the highlights of this inaugural event.
    A total of four races will be held and The KL GT City Cup will be the main feature of the KL City Grand Prix.
    The event is being organised by GT Global Race Sdn Bhd.
    GT Global Race chief executive officer M. Arrasu said the KL City GP was organised in response to the request from race teams from around the world to race on a street circuit in Kuala Lumpur which is regarded as an ideal platform for performance racing.
    “The KL GT City Cup race is a 80km street race over 25 laps that will reward the fastest driver and car to finish first on the challenging 3.2km circuit.
    “It is exclusively for the Grand Touring (GT) series cars,” he said.

    Race mechanics inspectiong tyres to be used for the Formula Masters China series.
    Three support races – the Formula Masters China Series (FMCS), the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, and an exhibition race for the Australian V8 Supercars series – will also take place over the weekend.
    “FMCS was introduced for the first time in 2013 and is designed to provide a comprehensive platform to develop the next generation of Chinese and Asian motorsport stars.
    “This will be its fourth meet before the finals in China in October.
    “FMCS is supported by Volkswagen Group China (VGC) and organised by Top Speed Ltd.
    “FMCS is an ideal event for identifying young talent for other VGC motorsport series such as Audi R8LMS Cup, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia,” he said.
    “The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series is now in its seventh, fourth and third year running in Europe, Asia and the US respectively.
    “The latest race season features the 620hp, V10, two-wheel drive Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo, an all-new car built from scratch with a clear racing concept.

    “This year will see the final outing of the much loved Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo, the road version of which has been Lamborghini’s most successful model to date.
    “This race will be the third of six races before the world final for this year’s Asia Series calendar,” he added
    Arrasu said he was also very excited to host the V8 Supercars series which is regarded as one of the best and most entertaining motorsport categories in the world.
    “It is third most attended and fourth most watched sport in Australia.
    “The race covers the entire country with races in each state.
    “Having raced in China, the Middle East and the US, V8 Supercars is now set to be part of the KL City Grand Prix until 2019.
    “This weekend’s exhibition race will be followed by proper championship rounds starting next year.

    In record time, Jalan P.Ramlee has been transformed into a temporary racing circuit.
    “Five of the series’ best teams and drivers will be racing this weekend as a fantastic sampling of what’s to come in the following years,” Arrasu said.
    The races this weekend will take place on what are usually some of the busiest roads in the city, starting from Suria KLCC, passing through Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Perak and Jalan P Ramlee.
    The 3.2km circuit will feature 16 turns.
    The public are advised to use public transportation on the weekend of the event.
    Tickets are priced at RM350 each for the Perak, Sultan Ismail, and Ampang grandstands, and RM450 for the P Ramlee Pit grandstand.
    Walkabout ticket is RM50 for adults and RM20 for children between three and 12 years old. Gates open at 9am daily.
