KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1, 2015:
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has denied that the remand application for two detained over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) investigation has been rejected.
In a tweet, Khalid responded to an earlier tweet by PKR’s Tian Chua that the magistrate had rejected the remand application for Tan Sri Rashpal Singh and Jessica Sidhu.
“@tianchua @PDRMsia sangkal permohonan remand oleh Polis di tolak. Tweet dibawah satu cubaan kelirukan Rakyat,” the IGP said via his official Twitter account @KBAB51, which was attached with a screenshot of Tian Chua’s earlier tweet.
(Police deny that the remand application by the police was rejected. The following tweet is meant to confuse the rakyat).
However, Khalid did not elaborate further on the remand application.
Tian Chua, earlier said, “Remand application for Tan Sri Rashpal & Jessica Sidhu was rejected. Bravo to the brave magistrate! Lawyer Ragunath. Salute to MACC!”
It was reported this morning that a former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) adviser and an officer from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) were arrested as part of investigations into 1MDB.
The Malaysian Insider reported that the former MACC adviser reportedly met with Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown in London’s Hyde Park.
Meanwhile, the AGC officer was part of the unit for anti-money laundering activities.
Later, the news portal identified the two detained as Rashpal and Jessica.
