BUKIT MERTAJAM: Company executive Mohamad Tarmimi Hamid never got to taste the durians his mother Rubiah Abu Hassan bought for him.
She died in a road accident at KM44.3 of the Kulim-Baling-Grik Highway.
Mohamad Tarmimi, 32, believed his mother had bought the durians, which were found inside the Proton Wira driven by his brother Mohd Tanizi Hamid, 36, for him.
“As it is my favourite fruit, I asked her to buy it for me.
“I never thought that this Hari Raya would be the last that we celebrated together,” he said after the funeral of Rubiah, 59, Mohd Tanizi and his sister Nor Shafiqah, 19, at Rubiah’s house in Kampung Telok here yesterday.
The three were killed when their car collided with a pick-up truck at about 10.30pm on Saturday.
Mohd Tanizi’s girlfriend Zubaidah Ahmad, 36, was seriously injured in the accident.
Mohamad Tarmimi, who is the second of seven siblings, said the four were on their way to Ulu Lenggong for a picnic at the hot spring there.
“They left at about 8pm on Saturday,” he added.
He said Mohd Tanizi and Zubaidah had planned to get married in December.
Rubiah was in the front passenger seat while Nor Shafiqah and Zubaidah were in the back seat when the accident happened.
Kedah Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Nurhafizah Muhammad Lukman said a fire engine from the Baling station with seven firemen arrived at the scene just before 11pm.
The driver of the pick-up truck, Said Abdullah, 63, his wife Che Minah Ahmad, 60, and two relatives, Salmah Din, 57, and Nurul Zuliana Ramli, 20, sustained minor injuries.
Baling OCPD Supt Mat Daud Mat Hasan said the cause of the accident was still under investigation.
Mohd Tanizi, Rubiah and Nor Shafiqah’s remains were laid to rest at the Masjid Tok Lebai Hashim cemetery in Bukit Minyak.
The bodies were earlier claimed from Hospital Baling by family members.
