The National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam) has heavily criticised French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo for recently publishing a front-page caricature related to ill-fated Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.
Union president Ismail Nasaruddin said the cover photo was a reason for French authorities to flag the publication.
“They have nothing better to do and simply want to start another wildfire among the families, whom I’m sure would not take long to condemn them.
“How could they come out with such a cartoon? It is absolute nonsense,” he told The Rakyat Post when contacted today.
Ismail was responding to the cover photo which depicted islanders on La Reunion, where a flaperon said to be from the missing Boeing 777-200 was found, as stumbling upon dismembered hands of a pilot grasping on a pair of breasts belonging to a stewardess.
He added that he had already received news of the cover from the next of kin of those on board the flight.Ismail slammed the publication for the insensitive portrayal, saying it was too kurang ajar (rude).
“Obviously they (the relatives) are very angry about this,”
“If something like this had happened in their (Charlie Hebdo’s) country, would they be happy?”
“They can expect retaliation as it not only involves the lives of Malaysians but others from the international community. It just shows how disrespectful they are,”
Ismail believed that the publication, which had faced a terrorist attack earlier this year where dozens were killed following a caricature of Prophet Mohamad, should have been smarter.
“It’s all really disgusting to me. What does that picture say about the profession of pilots?
“I hope Air France crew members will take note of this and condemn it. If it was an incident involving their airline, I’m sure they, too, would be angry,” he said.
