Two Pakistanis arrested for assaulting Sabahan

KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested two Pakistani nationals following the assault of a local man at a petrol station in Kepayan a week ago.

Videos and photographs of the June 15 incident involving the two Pakistani men had been circulating widely on social networks.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm M Chandra said the 23-year-old shopkeeper and his 24-year-old assistant were detained at Kampung Petagas in Putatan, near here, at about 1.30am on Tuesday.

He said a police team led by Insp Shreethran Balan arrested the two under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

Chandra said on that day, the 27-year-old local man had gone to the petrol station and noticed that one of the two men, filling up their motorcycle with petrol, was talking on his handphone.

Concerned about safety, the local man from Beaufort district asked the motorcyclist to stop talking on the phone.

The motorcyclist and his passenger shouted at the local man. After assaulting him, they rode off.

The local man sustained minor injuries in the face and body.
