ALOR GAJAH: An elderly Korean national drowned after he fell off a banana boat at sea near the lighthouse in Tanjung Tuan here Thursday.
Alor Gajah police chief Supt Muhammad Ismail Muhammad Yusuf said Choi Seungyul, 74, and five other members of his family fell off the boat when it overturned after being hit by a wave at about noon.
"Everyone on the boat fell off when it overturned but they managed to hang on to it.
"All the victims were saved by fishermen who were in the area and the senior citizen was sent to the Port Dickson Hospital after he appeared weak and had difficulty breathing," he said.
He said Choi died at 3.55 pm while being treated at the hospital.
His death was due to drowning and the case had been classified as sudden death, he said. - Bernama
