Mandarin Oriental Hotel Kuala Lumpur has undoubtedly been one of the top Ramadan Buka Puasa spots in the city. The posh 5 Star hotel's Diamond Ballroom has been one of the more popular spots for major corporations who want to host their clients and staff for buka puasa during the holy month of Ramadan especially on weekdays. During weekends you can find many captains of industries enjoying the buka puasa spread with their families.
While you will find a more International spread at Mandarin Oriental's Mosaic restaurant, you will find a more authentic Malay spread at their Diamond Ballroom.
Their appetisers were kept simple, with bread, cheese and the usual Malay inspired dishes.
They had some nice and fresh prawns, crab legs and mussels for those who like to start with some light seafood
The highlight of the spread at the Diamond Balroom must be the Kambing Golek or Roast Lamb. The lamb here was to die for and must be the best we have tasted in our survey of buka puasa spots. Its was full of flavour, tender and moist and it just blended well with the well prepared black pepper sauce
The lemang and rendang was another dish that was simply amazing, we had a few rounds of it with beef and chicken serunding.
For those who love satay you will not be disappointed here as the beef and chicken satay were very well prepared. The sauce was not oily and blended well with the Satay.
The spread at the Diamond Ballroom offers you a variety of curries to accompany your briyani rice or noodles. The mutton varuval, butter prawns, prawn sambal, lamb curry, chicken curry, fried chicken, mixed vegetables were all extremely delicious and flavourful. I especially loved the chicken 65 and ikan masak 3 rasa.
For those who are staying away from rice you must try the Murtabak it was simply delicious.
For those who love Peking duck this is the place to be as they are freshly made.
The had some freshly made popiah basah too.
For those who like a little middle eastern flavor they had some well prepare shawarma and chicken kebabs.
The Assam Laksa Penang station was a hot crowd favourite
The Mandarin Oriental desserts are really mouth watering. We enjoyed the delicious Mango and Chocolate Mousse while digging in to the delicious Malay Kuih. The bread and butter pudding was a excellent. We washed down with some delicious ice cream and fruits.I especially enjoyed the sirap bandung throughout the night and had no less than 5 glasses. The teh tarik and nescafe was as good as the best mamak stall.
If you are going for great tasting fare and looking for quality instead of quantity in a posh ambiance then this is the place to head to for the last few days of Ramadan The Diamond Ballroom is so spacious that you wont even notice the crowd.
