Films to look forward to in July and August

16 films to look forward to in July and August

Here are some of the films that will be released this month and in August in Malaysia.
Terminator Genisys (July 2): The Governator is back with a different timeline occurrences involving Skynet, Terminator robots and Sarah Connor. In this film, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke and Jai Courtney star.
Magic Mike XXL (July 2): Producer-star Channing Tatum takes another page from his past for the sequel: A stripper convention he attended. This sequel entails a road trip involving the characters we first met in the 2012 film Magic Mike. Tatum is joined by co-stars Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello.

The Gallows (July 9): During a play at a high school, someone dies. Doesn’t sound good.
Twenty years later, the same people decide to restage the same play to honour the tragedy. Bad idea.
Soon, they learn that though they are older, they’re not much wiser when they realise some things are better left alone.
Starring Cassidy Gifford and Pfeiffer Brown, with a cover version of Smells Like Teen Spirit as the soundtrack.
Aloha (July 9): Set in Hawaii (duh!), Aloha stars Bradley Cooper, Rachel McAdams, Bill Murray and Emma Stone and is directed by Cameron Crowe. It tells of a military contractor who gets embroiled in a … love triangle of some sort.
Expect the storyline to hit you right smack on your mushy heart.
Harbinger Down (July 9): It’s kind of like Alien but on a ship in the ocean instead of outer space. A group of students working on a project about the effects of global warming board a fishing trawler and head out to the Bering Sea.
Unfortunately, it seems something else followed them on the ship.
Starring Lance Henriksen, Camille Balsamo and Matt Winston.
Ant-Man (July 16): A suit that allows its wearer to shrink and gain great strength? Sure, why not?
In this film, thief Scott Lang learns what it takes to be a hero.
The ever-youthful looking Paul Rudd stars as the title character, with co-stars Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly.
Paper Towns (July 23): From John Green, the author of The Fault In Our Stars, comes this mystery-romance. It sees Quentin (Nat Wolff) embarking on a road trip to find out what has happened to the girl next door (model Cara Delevingne).
The Vatican Tapes (July 23): Seriously, the summer blockbuster season isn’t complete without a film about exorcism.
This one stars Djimon Hounsou, Kathleen Robertson and Dougray Scott and it follows the story of two Vatican “exocists” who must battle an ancient evil force which has taken over the soul of a woman.
Southpaw (July 30): For the role of a boxer, Jake Gyllenhaal trained twice daily for four months. In an Entertainment Weeklyarticle, director Antoine Fuqua said he shot Gyllenhaal’s fight sequences in real time as the actor sparred with pro boxers. Fuqua stated: “It turns out that he’s a pretty good fighter. He’s got some skills.”
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (July 30): Ethan Hunt’s impossible mission is to fight a mysterious shadow organisation and hang on to the side of an airplane while it takes off. Apparently, for the stunt, Tom Cruise was strapped to the plane as it was flying at 914m above ground. Fear of heights? Not for Cruise.
Fantastic Four (Aug 6): A reboot about four smart people who gain superpowers when they travel to another dimension. We’re thinking this one will be more fantastic than the 2005 film. Starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell and Toby Kebbell.
The Road Within (Aug 6): Another movie which has a road trip as its premise. This one is about a young man with Tourette’s Syndrome who travels with the ashes of his recently-deceased mother. Starring Dev Patel, Zoe Kravitz and Robert Sheehan.
Ricki And The Flash (Aug 13): Meryl Streep is a rock singer who gave up her personal life for her career. But, now she wants to reconnect with her daughter. Streep’s own daughter Mamie Gummer steps into that role.
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (Aug 13): A film starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer and directed by Guy Ritchie, based on a TV show? In other words: no need to take it seriously, but we seriously want to watch it.
Inside Out (Aug 20): Pixar’s only release for summer, yay! An intricate look at a teenager’s five outspoken emotions: Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Fear (Bill Hader), Sadness (Phyliss Smith), Anger (Lewis Black) and Joy (Amy Poehler).
Hitman: Agent 47 (Aug 27): Rupert Friend wears the shoes of a gun-for-hire known only as Agent 47, previously portrayed by Timothy Olyphant in a 2007 film. Does the shoe fit Friend? We’ll find out soon enough. Zachary Quinto co-stars.
