It was blue for a boy and, er, yellow for a girl.
So her first post-baby outfit wasn't quite as traditional as it was with Prince George, but the Duchess of Cambridge still looked nothing short of splendid as she stood outside the London hospital in which she had given birth just a mere 10 hours earlier.

On Saturday evening, the radiant 33-year-old exited the private Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital wearing a floral yellow-and-white silk dress by British designer Jenny Packham, along with her trusty old beige pumps.

The bespoke lemony frock was very fresh, very "spring", and very much all the world's magazines are talking about. She looked like she'd come from an afternoon tea with the gals rather than a delivery suite.

And as to be expected of the famously well-coiffed royal, her glossy curls were perfectly in place and there was - to the likely anger or envy of most women around the world - not a dark circle to be seen.
Yep, there is truly no situation in which the classy Kate lets her devotion to a good blow-dry and a beige heel waver.
We don't know about you, but we tend to look more exhausted after waking up from a lazy Sunday morning lie-in - and it looks like many would agree judging by the hundreds of cries of "how does she do it" that promptly flooded Twitter.

Ah, to have a personal hair and make-up stylist on call, eh? (Though unlike the duchess, we fear we'd give them a lot more to battle with, post-birth.)
Most endearingly, the new mum of two wore an outfit that flatteringly highlighted, rather than hid, her post-pregnancy shape.
Kate was applauded for a similar move after George's delivery in that blue polka-dot number - also by Jenny Packham.

The newest royal bub, who weighed in at 3.7 kilograms, co-ordinated with her mum in a white shawl and cream knitted bonnet on the cool May evening.
There she sleeps, quietly dreaming of the ridiculously good wardrobe she will one day inherit.
However, blue was the order of the day for the boys (in colour only, not spirit) - with William sporting a blue V-neck and white shirt.

George, who will turn 2 in July, looked like a gloriously chubby-cheeked doppelganger in his own jumper-and-shirt combo, along with some very cute matching knee socks.
Now, we're off to feel very bad about wearing an elasticated waist, baggy tee and Chucks because getting up on a Monday (rather than a 2⅓-hour labour) was "too hard".
    WHAT OTHER ROYALS WORE

Personally we can't think of anything worse than having to go before hundreds of cameras post-delivery. But these royals braved the media's glare outside the hospital - and looked pretty damn great while doing so (so long as you remember that some of these were in the '80s ... ).
    DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES
A very fresh-faced Diana left the Lindo Wing with Prince Harry, resplendent in a rather fetching scarlet power suit. There's something about her "new mum glow" that's making us kind of dig the 1984 bouffant and shoulder pads.
    SARAH, DUCHESS OF YORK
The duchess leaves Portland Hospital in 1988 with a tiny Princess Beatrice. We do love a floral print, and, yes, while the cut looks a teeny bit like a bathroom robe, she just had a baby y'all - we'd be in a robe for months.
    ANNE, PRINCESS ROYAL
Princess Anne was a royal-leaving-the-hospital trendsetter - previously blue-blooded babes were delivered at royal residences and kept away from the cameras for their first few weeks. Here she leaves the Lindo Wing with daughter Zara in a rather cool forest-green cape (we'll not make too much noise about the The Sound of Music-style dress and Saturday Night Fever collar, given that it was 1981).
    SARAH, DUCHESS OF YORK
Sarah, pictured with Prince Andrew and a little Princess Eugenie, rocks one of the most 1990 outfits we've ever seen (it's kind of ringmaster-meets-She-Ra, you reckon?). But that beauty of a strawberry blonde 'do is making us want to go red for winter, pronto.
    DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES
An impossibly young-looking Diana left the Lindo Wing with firstborn Prince William in 1982 in a loose-fit, polka-dot number (loving the collar and bow combo).
    KATE, DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE
And, in one of the most touching royal shots of all time, Prince William stands outside the Lindo Wing 31 years later with his own firstborn as Kate pays tribute to her late mother-in-law in her own polka-dot dress. (By Jenny Packham, natch).
Conclusion: Royal women have a superhuman ability to look like they've just woken up from a 12-hour nap rather than produced an heir.
