ALOR SETAR: A 38-year-old jobless man was charged in the magistrate's court here Wednesday in connection with a Molotov cocktail attack on a bank last week.
Chan Huat Chai (pic), from Taman Bersatu, Jalan Kuala Kedah, was charged with causing mischief with fire with the intention to cause damage, on April 8 at about 4.05pm at the entrance of a bank in Simpang Kuala here.
He pleaded not guilty to the offence under Section 435 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Mohd Khairul Hafizuddin Ramli set May 18 for mention.
It was reported that Chan had vented his frustration by throwing a Molotov cocktail at the bank after he failed to withdraw RM10,000.
The Molotov cocktail, however, fell on the bank’s sidewalk and left a trail of soot at the entrance but caused no damage to property.
It was learnt that he then abandoned his motorcycle and fled the scene on foot.
