KUALA LUMPUR: V. Chelladorai says he tried his best to provide his family with a comfortable life, good education and a place to live, but now he finds himself abandoned, without a home, food or money.
The 66-year-old claims he was chased out of his own house and now he is to be found walking aimlessly for a place to stay and without any cash. To compound matters, he suffers from arthiritis.
"After I was chased out, I stayed at my friend's place for two days. After that, he could not accommodate me and I was homeless for four days.
"For four days, I slept in a field at Ayer Panas, Setapak and with my condition, it was not the best place to live in. It was raining, I felt cold and I could not sleep well.
"I lived well and suddenly, I am left in such a state. I am just shocked and lost for words," said the tearful Chelladorai.
His troubles allegedly started after he transferred property and savings to a family member, and soon found himself evicted.
The former Lab Technician at the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia only has an elder sister who is based in Cameron Highlands and said he does not have many relatives.
"My wife passed 15 years ago," he said.
When he was staying at the field, he saw many of his close friends driving or riding around the area but he said he was ashamed to show himself.
Chelladorai is currently staying in an old folks home but it is just going to be a temporary stay as the home is full of occupants.
"I just need a place to stay or work. Even if it means being a security guard, I do not mind doing it with this condition," he said.
