KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly a month after their heist at a Taman Maluri shopping mall was literally shot down by a security guard who killed their accomplice, police have rounded the remaining robbers in a series of raids.
Bukit Aman CID special task force on organised crime (Stafoc), working on intelligence picked up the first suspect in Sungai Buloh at about 5pm on March 31.
Interrogations later led police to track down his accomplices in Gombak, where police picked up the two suspects during different raids on Wednesday evening.
Police also detained the wife of one of the suspects, said KL CID chief Senior Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad.
The men are aged 26 to 28, and have had previous records including gang robbery, assault and even kidnapping. One had been jailed for two-years under the Public Order and Prevention Ordinance (POPC) which has since been abolished.
They were working for a car towing service, said SAC Zainuddin. One suspect had been remanded until April 5 to assist investigations, while the police are looking to obtain a remand order for the three arrested on Wednesday, tomorrow.
The suspects are believed to have been involved in a four-men attempted robbery at a money changer in a Taman Maluri shopping mall on March 9.
The suspects, armed with parang and full-face helmets, rammed their Naza Citra into the side of the premises before robbing a money changer.
As they were about to escape, the group's 30-year-old accomplice was shot dead by a security guard from a nearby jewellery store. Two suspects fled on motorcycles while another ran on foot.
Checks by the police revealed that the dead suspect had a previous conviction involving a car theft.
