GEORGE TOWN: An unidentified man was gunned down at point blank range at the Scotland Road/York Road junction, in a third shooting incident on Monday. Another occupant in the car managed to escape.
The man, in his 50s, was slowing his car, a Honda Odyssey, near a traffic light at about 9.30pm when two assailants on a motorcycle rode next to the car and opened fire at least seven times.
He died at the scene.
Penang deputy CID chief Asst Comm P.R. Gunarajan said the other car occupant, also in his 50s, managed to escape the shooting by opening the car door and running away.
He said police were collecting evidence at the scene.
In Sungei Petani, an owner of a car wash was gunned down in front of his house in Taman Sri Gedung, near Jalan Lencungan Timur, at 12.10am while in Kajang, a man related to a former Hulu Langat MIC youth leader was seriously wounded in a gang-related shooting near a traffic light along Jalan Reko.
