KUALA LUMPUR, March 27, 2015:
Activist Hishamuddin Rais has been arrested by plainclothes policemen.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed this when contacted by The Rakyat Post tonight.
This had happened near the KitaLawan ceramah venue at Dataran Merdeka.
The activist, who was said to have been on the way to the venue, was stopped about 9.40pm near the traffic light at the Dataran Merdeka junction.
Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah had also tweeted, “Hisham Rais kidnapped by plain clothes police officers in an unmarked car. Are we a police state #KBAB51 – Release Hisham now. Utterly @#&”!”
In the most recent update by PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil, citing Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong as his source, Hishamuddin is said to be at the Dang Wangi district police station.Fahmi added that he was made to understand that PKR vice-president Tian Chua had also been called to the police station.
“We’re expecting him to be arrested,” Fahmi said.
The arrest comes after PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli was arrested today for issuing a statement on Saturday’s #KitaLawan rally.
The Pandan MP was arrested at his service centre in Pandan.
Later in a series of tweets, Fahmi related Hishamuddin’s account.
According to Hishamuddin, he was in a cab and was followed by a car and some motorcycles. When he alighted from the cab, he claimed six men grabbed him.
“One of them dragged him by the chest, covered Hisham’s mouth to stop him from shouting. They threw Hisham into another car and took him to Dang Wangi.”
