KUALA LUMPUR: A woman was burnt to death inside her car after it was rammed in the back by another car along the Maju Expressway.
She was driving from KL International Airport when another car, also coming from the same direction, hit her car at 6.57am yesterday, said Kuala Lumpur staff officer for traffic investigation and regulation Deputy Supt Markandan Subramaniam.
The impact caused the woman’s car to overturn near the Bukit Jalil exit of the highway before crashing into the cement road divider.
It burst into flames with the woman still in it.
Fire and Rescue Department officers arrived at 7.11am to extinguish the flames and pull her and the other driver out of their cars.
“The victim was burnt beyond recognition. The body was brought to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for postmortem. We are still trying to confirm her identity using DNA,” he said.
The driver of the other car, a 50-year-old hotel manager, has been arrested and is being investigated for reckless driving.
He was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, said DSP Markandan.
In another case, an armed forces personnel was killed on the Middle Ring Road 2 at 4am yesterday after losing control of his motorcycle.
Vitalis Kamin, attached with the Sungai Besi camp, was travelling towards Sungai Besi when he lost control of his machine and crashed into a road divider near the Bandar Tasik Selatan LRT station.
He died of head injuries.
