ALOR SETAR: The 23-year-old newlywed who was set ablaze by her jealous husband in Kampung Abi Padang Machang, Kangar, is reported to be in stable condition.
Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital director Datuk Dr Juita Ghazalie said the woman sustained 30% burns on her face, upper limbs and the front of her body.
“She is stable and her blood pressure is normal. She is currently on ventilator support as she suffered respiratory burns due to inhalation of hot fumes. Medical assistants will dress her wound daily and she may need skin graft later,” said Dr Juita.
The victim was rushed to the hospital’s burn unit immediately after the incident on Sunday morning. Her husband, who sustained burns to the face and hands, was transferred to the same burn unit from Tuanku Fauziah Hospital in Kangar where he had been warded earlier.
He was wheeled by medical personnel at about 2.15pm yesterday, escorted by police.
Kangar OCPD Supt Abdul Rahman Mohd Nordin said the man had been remanded for seven days from yesterday.
“He has confessed to the act. Police have carried out investigations under Section 326 of Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt,” he said.
It was reported that the man splashed petrol over his wife of one week and used a lighter to light her up after a heated argument because he suspected she was having an affair.
