Ramadan Buka Puasa Buffet Review 2014 @ Temptations , Renaissance Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

Ramadan Buka Puasa Buffet Review @ Temptations Restaurant, Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

Racking in the profits at the expense of quality and guest comfort & safety????

Many times I wanted to do a review of the Temptations Buka Puasa Buffet and we finally got the chance yesterday. I heard that that they have a huge variety of dishes so the other reviewers and I  barely ate the whole day waiting to indulge in the Temptation Ramadan Buka Puasa Buffet.

As you go into the restaurant, you can see a magnificent lamb quickly turning into just bones as the crowds of people went after it.It was good.

They had a wide variety of hot and cold appetisers and salads

The Malay section was certainly the best section. There were usual traditional Malay dishes and it was very well prepared with full of flavor. The Nasi Tomato, Daging Kambing Masak Ketumbar, Ikan Bawal Masak Tomato, Sotong Masak Cili Kering Kicap Manis, Udang Lemak Masak Cili Padi, Sayur Lodeh and Pucuk Paku Sambal Belacan was all very well prepared.

The rendang was very good, tender and tasty.

The live grill station was certainly another crowd favourite as the chefs grilled chicken, meats and seafood on request.

The Indian dishes such as Khema Biryani, Chicken Malai Tikka, Chana Masala, Goan Curry Fish, Alo Simla Mich and Vegetable Pulao were quite good too.

They had their version of Lok-Lok.

They had the usual drinks section.

There was the usual noodle corner where the chefs would cook to order. The noodles were pretty good and tasty.

There was also the usual soup station.

They has a western corner and this is where we found the nights worst dish. The Black peppers beef was too tough and you could barely cut into the meat.We sampled no less than 10 cuts and it was all the same.

The deserts were usual nyonya kuih and basic cakes.

They had an ice kacang station and ABC station
which was a crowd favourite.

My favourite of the evening was very well prepared butter prawns and creme brullet tart. The Chicken satay tasted much better than it looked. Deserts were a letdown and half the time not replenished

Overall if the hotel gets it act together, its a good place to visit and try the Malay dishes.

I am not sure if it was our unlucky day or a normal practise of the management to put 400 people in a 200 seater restaurant. The management put out banquet tables right up to the doorstep of the entrance of the hotel.

The Management even took a booking for more than 50 people - all non Muslims and put them in the restaurant.  These people raided the buffet and started eating even before the time to break fast, so much so when it was almost time to break fast there were many dishes empty. They should have accommodated these guest in a private room

Some clever Muslim guest seeing this starting filling their plates at 7pm itself. This is poor planning by the hotel management, who seem insensitive about the whole spirit of Ramadan

I am not sure if they realised that placing tables in walkways and staircases was not allowed and ultimately a fire hazard. Hotel Management need to weigh in safety and comfort of the hotel guest against making a quick profit.

I am all for extending the Ramadan Buffets to banquet rooms or designated function room but to put people on staircases and in walk ways shows that the hotel does not care about guest safety and comfort. It's almost like you have to thank them for taking your reservation.

Overall the food was very basic and  if not for the great tasting Malay section,  this buffet would have been a huge letdown.

The fact remains that the hotel packed the restaurant double its usual capacity as such the food finished fast and the staff were slow in replacing the popular items. The buffet counter was in shambles with so many guest  going through it it resembled as if a hurricane had gone through it, compromising on food quality and guest satisfaction.

The Tempations restaurant manager was quite accommodating and handled guest very well. The staff on duty did well to clear the plates and provide new utensils or attend to the guest, so service was up to the mark.

However compromising guest safety, comfort and satisfaction should never be tolerated.

I do hope the hotel senior management take the needful action if they ever should read this.
