JOHOR BARU: A public works department (JKR) director was fined RM1.154 mil and sentenced a year in prison after he was found guilty of corruption.
Suspended Putrajaya JKR maintenance division director Datuk Abd Rahim Ahmad, 58, was found guilty for abusing his position as the maintenance facility project director of the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and the JB Sentral building in Bukit Chagar to attain an air conditioning maintenance project for his brother.

Abd Rahim was alleged to have requested for Advanced Maintenance Precision Management Sdn Bhd operations director Saipolyazan M. Yusop to appoint YBA Technology Sdn Bhd, a company that belongs to his brother, to conduct the works valued at RM196,000 to supply, install, test and commission the valves for the hot and chilled water systems worth RM34,800 at the buildings.
He was sentenced for the offence which occurred at around 1.30pm at Level Four of Bangunan Sultan Iskandar on Jan 5, 2011.
Sessions judge Muhamad Jamil Hussein fined him RM1.154mil and jailed him for a year.
He also ordered for an additional jail term of six months if Abdul Rahim failed to settle the fine.
