For illustration purposes. Pic: www.pateslaw.comIPOH: A man was charged in the Sessions Court here today with raping and sodomising a 15-year-old girl.
Liew Kar Chuan, 29, of Taman Gopeng Jaya, Gopeng near here, pleaded not guilty to both the charges before Judge Rushan Lutfi Mohamed.
He was charged with raping the girl in Gopeng at 11 pm last Feb 2, an offence under Section 376 of the penal Code which carries a maximum jail term for 20 years and is liable to whipping, if found guilty.
For the sodomy charge, Liew was alleged to have committed the offence on the girl between Feb 1 and July 6 this year.
The offence, under Section 377B of the Penal Code, also carries a maximum jail term for 20 years and is liable to whipping, if found guilty.
Rushan set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and fixed Aug 21 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Nadiah Isa prosecuted, while Liew is represented by lawyer Meor Shaazizi Meor Shaari.
