THE longest Chinese horse painting was created and unveiled at Suria KLCC shopping centre in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.
The painting by renowned horse-painting artist James Phua is recognised as the longest horse painting in Malaysia by the Malaysia Book of Records. It was witnessed by shoppers as well as 50 underprivileged children from House of Joy and Rumah Charis who were invited to the Chinese New Year celebration at the mall.
“We host the less privileged every year, especially during festive seasons.
“This is our way of giving back to society, especially to those in need.
“This year, we wanted to make it even more special for the children as well as our customers by exhibiting the longest Chinese horse painting in Malaysia to welcome the Year of the Horse.
“As the horse is a symbol of strength, we hope it will inspire the young ones to persevere and seek success in their lives,” said Suria KLCC chief executive officer Andrew Brien.
The horse painting was created on a canvas measuring 12m by 6m, exceeding the current world record by Australian artist Yao Di Xiong, who created the largest horse painting in 2002.
Phua completed the painting in less than an hour, using freestyle techniques with a specially designed enlarged Chinese painting brush and approximately 60 litres of paint.
Besides watching history in the making, the children from House of Joy and Rumah Charis were also treated to a shopping spree at the shopping centre.
They were each given RM150 worth of ang pow money to be spent on new clothes at Isetan departmental store.
They were then entertained to amazing acts by a Shaolin Martial Arts Troupe from China, who showcased remarkable martial arts skills. The troupe demonstrated acts such as broad sword, drunken master and scorpion kung fu, among others
The children also enjoyed an eight-drum performance and acrobatic lion dance before proceeding to Spring Garden restaurant for a dim sum dinner and yee sang-tossing with the Suria KLCC management team.
“We feel very privileged to be part of the shopping centre’s Chinese New Year celebrations. It was an enjoyable evening for all of us,” said House of Joy caretaker Lesley Mah.
