Thaipusam A Holiday For Kedah This Year: Mukhriz

SUNGAI PETANI: Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir today announced that Jan 17 as 'cuti peristiwa) (occasional holiday) for Thaipusam celebration in Kedah this year.
Mukhriz said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah, who is also the Sultan of Kedah, had given his consent to make Thaipusam an occasional holiday for the state this year.
However, if it falls on weekend (Friday and Saturday), it will not be replaced.
The move was to honour the pledge made by Barisan Nasional in its 13th General Election manifesto for Kedah.
"Since Jan 17 this year falls on Friday, it will not be replaced but it will allow private companies including banks, to have a day off."
"After this, the state government will make a request for Thaipusam to be declared a public holiday in Kedah,"
"But this year, we'll just enjoy the occasional holiday," he said at a second convocation ceremony at the Kolej Universiti Insaniah (Kuin) main campus in Kuala Ketil near here today.
