Robert Kuok Remains Malaysia’s Richest Man

Still number one.  /Google ImagesStill number one. /Google ImagesKUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Robert Kuok ended 2013 as Malaysia’s wealthiest man with a net worth of US$16.7 billion (RM54billion) according to the Bloomberg 300 Billionaires Index. Despite suffering a decrease in his fortune, the index listed Kuok at the 50th position.
In January last year, Kuok’s wealth was reported to be US$17.9 billion (RM58billion) and his rank then was 41.
The business mogul left Malaysia four decades ago and now resides in Hong Kong. He made his money from years of running an empire which includes palm oil refinery, Wilmar and Shangri-La Asia chain of hotels.
In second position in the index is the owner of Maxis and Astro, Tan Sri Ananda Krishnan. His net worth amounted at US$8.8 billion (RM28.6 billion), making him one of the top 140 billionaires in the world.
Meanwhile, Genting Group’s founder Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong’s son Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay stands at the third spot with a net worth of US$7.5 billion (RM24.3). He ranked at spot 173 in the index.
