GEORGE TOWN: Syed Amen Jainul Abdin often told his wife that there were people who wanted to shoot him.
Masita Abu Bakar (pic), 46, said she could only advise her husband to be careful.
“Instead, he told me to be strong should something bad happen to him,” she said, weeping at the Penang Hospital mortuary yesterday where Syed Amen’s body was sent for post-mortem.
Masita said she would take over her husband’s businesses.
    The couple have no children.
Syed Amen’s brother, Abdul Kadir Jainul Abdin, 42, described him as a man who helped friends in need.
“He stood up for them and faced everything head on. That is the reason why he was often surrounded by enemies,” he said.
Abdul Kadir was informed that the car Syed Amen was driving when he was attacked belonged to a friend.
Prior to the shooting, Syed Amen was at a club in Datuk Keramat Road with some friends.
Evhy Anggraeni, 24, said she was at the club with her husband, Syed Amen and several other friends until the wee hours of the morning.
“At about 3.30am, we left. Syed Amen told us to go ahead first while he waited because he wanted to answer a call.
“We went our separate ways in different cars. On our way home to Seberang Prai, we received a call from a friend informing us that Syed Amen was shot,” Evhy said.
Syed Amen was buried at the Muslim cemetery near Masjid Jamek Haji Abdul Rashid in Sungai Dua, Seberang Prai.
Some 100 family members and friends attended prayers at the mosque before his burial.
