JOHOR BARU: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) kicked off the 2016 Super League season on a winning note – beating Selangor 7-6 on penalties to clinch the Charity Shield at the Larkin Stadium.
The teams drew 1-1 in regulation time but will share the points as far as the Super League standings is concerned.
JDT took the lead in the 44th minute when midfield enforcer Hariss Harun headed home a corner by Safiq Rahim.
In the 60th minute, Selangor new boy Mohd Hafiz Kamal equalised with a well-taken free-kick.T
In the shootout, Selangor defender Mohd Azrif Nasrulhaq put the ball wide to hand the Shield to JDT.
Felda United become the unlikely pacesetters when they beat promoted side Kedah 2-0 to top the table.
The other winners of the night are Terengganu and Police who beat Penang and Sarawak with identical 1-0 scorelines.
