Man attempts to shoot his wife at KLIA Arrival Hall, bodyguard seriously injured

SEPANG: A man deliberately opened fire on his wife before hitting another individual in an incident at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Arrival Hall 1 here on Sunday.

The victim, believed to be a bodyguard, was seriously injured by the gunshot.

Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said, the incident happened at about 1.15am.

"The investigation found that the incident involved a local man who wanted to shoot his wife.

"However, the shooting resulted in the victim suffering serious injuries before the suspect then ran away immediately after the incident,".

He said, the injured victim then received initial treatment before being sent to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

"The motive of the incident is still under investigation by the police and is classified as a case of attempted murder.

"Efforts to hunt down and track down the suspects involved are underway," he said.

According to him, the situation at KLIA 1 is under control.

"This incident does not involve any terrorist activity and the situation is under control.

"People are reminded not to make any speculations regarding the incident," he said.

On Sunday, it went viral on social media regarding the atmosphere at the KLIA 1 arrivals hall which was shocked by the sound of gunfire causing people to try to take cover to save themselves.

 The individual who fired at his wife before hitting a bodyguard in an incident at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) 1 Arrival Hall here is believed to have fled to the north.

Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said, further investigation found that the suspect actually wanted to fire at his wife who was there.

"At the time of the incident, the suspect's wife was believed to be waiting for the Umrah pilgrims to return.

"The suspect fired two shots before hitting a local man who is also a bodyguard resulting in the victim sustaining injuries in the abdomen," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He said the case was investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and the Firearms Act.

"The identity of the suspect has been identified and the operation to track him down is underway.

"Further investigation found that the suspect is believed to have fled to the north," he said.

According to him, this incident is personal and not related to any terrorist activity.

People are reminded not to make any speculations regarding the incident.
