MACC confirmed the detention of MB Perlis
Mohd Shukri was detained after appearing to give evidence to the MACC regarding the ongoing investigation into his son.
KUALA LUMPUR: Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli was confirmed to have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at around 10am this morning.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki when contacted by Astro AWANI confirmed that Mohd Shukri was at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
"Yes, he was detained at the MACC at 10 o'clock," he answered simply.
When asked if there were other individuals or leaders involved in this case, Azam refused to comment further.
According to him, Mohd Shukri was detained at the headquarters of the anti-corruption agency after appearing to give evidence to the authorities regarding the ongoing investigation into his son.
Azam added that Mohd Shukri was investigated in accordance with Section 53(3) of the MACC Act.
Last week, the MACC arrested Mohd Shukri's son and five others to assist in the investigation related to the submission of false documents and claims involving RM600,000 over the past two years.
Meanwhile, according to the administrator of the minister besar's official Facebook account in a message a while ago, the MACC did not remand Mohd Shukri.
"MB was not remanded. He was allowed to go home after finishing his testimony," he said.
