Former IGP Tun Hanif Omar Died At Age 85 Early Saturday

 




Former Inspector General of Police Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar died at the age of 85 early Saturday morning.

The matter was informed by his son, Captain Abdul Rahmat Omar Mohammed Hanif through the WhatsApp platform early this morning.

The deceased is understood to have breathed his last at 2.15 this morning.

"With great sadness, indeed, to Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return. I wish to inform you of the passing of our beloved father at 2.15am today," he said in a brief statement.

His remains are currently at his residence in Section 13, Shah Alam until 10am.

It is then expected to be taken to Masjid Al-Ikhlas at Jalan Lompat Pagar 13/37 for bathing, shrouding and funeral prayers.


Mohammed Hanif who was born on 16 January 1939 is the fourth Inspector General of Police of Malaysia and also the longest serving Inspector General of Police in Malaysia for 20 years.


The deceased replaced Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Hashim who was shot by two assassins.


Born in Teluk Intan, Perak, Mohammed Hanif became Melaka Police Chief on 7 September 1970, then Selangor Police Chief on 6 December 1971.


On 1 February 1973, he assumed the position of Deputy Inspector General of Police and was subsequently appointed as the fourth Inspector General of Police on 8 June 1974 to 15 January 1994.

After retirement, Mohammed Hanif was appointed as a member of the Commission to Strengthen the Management and Operations of the PDRM 2004-2005.
