Sofia Jane won the Best Actress award at the 21st Asian Film Festival

ACTRESS Datin Sofia Jane won the best actress award through her great performance as the protagonist (Maryam) in the movie Maryam Pagi ke Malam at the 21st Asian Film Festival in Rome, Italy.
In addition, the overall script directed by Badrul Hisham Ismail also managed to win the Most Original Film award.
Through sharing on her Instagram account, Sofia expressed her gratitude and congratulations to the production team involved.
"Congratulations to the Maryam Pagi ke Malam production team at the Asian Film Festival yesterday in Rome, Italy.
"Indeed, artist Omar Abdullah and artist Roslan Madun who play the role of Maryam's father and nanny in this film play a very important role in the development of Maryam's character.
"I am very grateful and grateful," she wrote in the caption.
In the meantime, through a video recording of the award acceptance speech uploaded on the @asianfilmfestival Instagram account, director Badrul Hisham admitted that he was surprised and pleased that the film had won the award.
“I am very surprised and proud since we could not broadcast the film widely here (Malaysia) for reasons that are not clear.
"So, it is very encouraging when this film is recognized and celebrated elsewhere," he said.
The 90-minute film was funded by a Creative Generator and Arthouse-Festival Feature Film Grant from MyCreative Ventures and produced by Anomalous Films.
Other actors who starred in the film include Susan Lancaster, Vanidah Imran, Roslan Madun, Azman Hassan, Pekin Ibrahim, and Bella Rahim in supporting roles.
Maryam Pagi ke Malam tells the story of Maryam, a 50-year-old gallery owner who was born into a noble family.
She wants to marry a young foreign man from Sierra Leone.
However, she has to face various challenges from her family, the sharia bureaucratic system, and the community. -
