KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian-born actress who forged fame in Hollywood, Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh is reported to be receiving the highest honor in the United States (US).
The Academy Award (Oscar) Best Actress trophy recipient, who will celebrate her 62nd birthday next August, will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by the President of the United States (US), Joe Biden at an official ceremony at the White House on May 3 next.
According to news reports, the actress was chosen as the recipient of the highest honor in the US after Biden recognized individuals who contributed a lot and served the security or interests of the US, world peace, culture or other important efforts.
Previously, among the personalities who have received the same medal include Mother Teresa, John F Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Stephen Hawking, Sidney Poitier, Yo-Yo Ma, Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs, Audrey Hepburn, Henry Kissinger, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Neil Armstrong, Jacques Cousteau, Duke Ellington, Tiger Woods and Rosa Parks.
Yeoh has starred in many Hollywood films and a large number of global successes such as Tomorrow Never Dies, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs Of A Geisha, Mummy 3, Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Lady.
