KOTA TINGGI: Police arrested a Bangladeshi man after he was found driving a car against the traffic flow at Kilometer 26.5 Jalan Johor Bahru-Mersing which went viral on social media on Saturday.

Kota Tinggi District Police Chief, Superintendent Hussin Zamora said the 43-year-old suspect was arrested at 3.15pm at the Kota Tinggi bus stop.

"Before that, the Traffic Enforcement Division of the Kota Tinggi District Police Headquarters (IPD) detected a 50-second viral video recording of the incident on Facebook.

"The video shows a white Nissan Almera type car being driven against the flow or in reverse, endangering the lives of other road users," he said in a statement on Sunday.

According to Hussin, the suspect does not have a driver's license, a urine test conducted on him was found to be negative for drugs and the car involved has no criminal record.

"The case is investigated in accordance with Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and if found guilty can be imprisoned for up to five years and fined up to RM15,000.

"People are asked to always be aware and obey the laws set in order to maintain common safety on the road," he said.
