KUALA LUMPUR: Lim Guan Eng claimed that the Chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN), Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin lied when he linked it to the decision when he was Finance Minister.
The DAP chairman in his reaction, denied issuing any specific instructions to cancel the tax exemption given by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government to Yayasan Albukhary which is patronized by Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary.
"This is not true and inaccurate. Can Muhyiddin show me the letter where I issued an order as the Minister of Finance to cancel the tax exemption for the Albukhary Foundation?
"If he fails to do so, I will seek legal advice against Muhyiddin's malicious lies against me since it also involves accusations of corruption which will be tried in court later," he said in a statement, on Friday.
In a statement after being questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday, Muhyiddin claimed that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government had canceled the tax payment exemption that had been approved for the Albukhary Foundation.
The former Prime Minister claimed that when leading the national administration, he did not issue any directives on the matter, instead, the decision to consider the appeal made by Syed Mokhtar was decided by the Ministry of Finance and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
On Thursday, MACC Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that Bersatu President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be charged in court today.
Muhyiddin in his statement said that he was called by the MACC regarding two matters, namely the Jana Wibawa project and the tax cancellation appeal by Syed Mokhtar which was divided into seven charges against him.
