MACC confirms Muhyiddin will be charged tomorrow
PUTRAJAYA: Chief Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commissioner (MACC), Tan Sri Azam Baki today confirmed that Bersatu President, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be charged in court tomorrow.
The statement confirmed that the Pagoh Member of Parliament who is also the Chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN) who is being questioned by MACC Putrajaya was not brought to court today.
"Tomorrow he is expected to be charged. Not today," he said when contacted by BH today.
MACC is expected to issue an official statement in the near future.
Muhyiddin was seen arriving at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Headquarters, here, at 11.18am, to give evidence believed to be related to the case of misappropriation of government funds Program for the Economic Generation of Empowered Bumiputera Contractors (Jana Wibawa).
Meanwhile, Bersatu Secretary General, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said, Muhyiddin Yassin had previously declared himself innocent of the Jana Wibawa embezzlement charges.
"Based on previous discussions, he expressed his belief that he is innocent," he told reporters after Muhyiddin entered the MACC Headquarters building, today.
On February 18, Muhyiddin confirmed that he was called by the MACC to testify about Jana Wibawa as a witness and not a suspect.
However, a day later, the MACC confirmed that the former Prime Minister was among the suspects investigated in relation to the case and that the investigation into him was still ongoing.
On February 20, the MACC informed a senior leader of a political party with MP status and a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a company, arrested in connection with the Jana Wibawa case.
A day later, Wan Saiful was charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on charges of soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM6.9 million involving the Jana Wibawa project worth RM232 million last year. However, he pleaded not guilty.
On the same day, the Deputy Head of Bersatu Segambut Division, Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad, was brought before the same court on two charges including accepting a RM500,000 bribe involving the Jana Wibawa project.
He was again charged in the Shah Alam Sessions Court on February 22 for the offense of accepting a bribe amounting to RM4.1 million related to the same project, followed by a third prosecution on February 28 regarding the Jana Wibawa project in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, on charges of asking for a bribe of RM2 million.
Also on February 22, a director of a furniture company in Pagoh was brought before the Johor Bahru Sessions Court, on nine charges of soliciting and accepting bribes in relation to the Jana Wibawa program worth RM12.875 million, over the past two years.
Jana Wibawa was implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is a continuation of the Competent Bumiputera Construction Contractor Development Program that was started in 1993.
Its implementation was approved by the Cabinet on 13 November 2020 when the government was administered by PN led by Muhyiddin.
