TANGKAK: The Prime Minister has announced that the allowance for health volunteers working in the field, including the Vaccination Center (PPV) and the COVID-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Center (PKRC) will be increased from RM50 to RM100, starting this month.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the increase would benefit about 19,000 volunteers nationwide.

“I have instructed the Ministry of Finance to review the payment rate for these volunteers, so that the number can be increased and the number of recipients also expanded as soon as possible.

"So the government has agreed to increase the allowance payment to volunteers who work more than 12 hours a day starting this June, which involves additional financial implications amounting to RM180 million," he said after visiting the PPV Dewan Muafakat Johor Bukit Gambir here today.

Commenting further, he said, the increase in the allowance is a recognition of the government to the services and contributions of the group who, among others, work hard to ensure that Malaysians can receive vaccinations in an orderly and fast manner.

In the meantime, he said, to meet the aspirations of the National Rehabilitation Plan, the government has also decided that PPVs nationwide will start operating seven days a week with extended operating hours.

"This decision is in line to prove the seriousness of the government in increasing vaccination rates throughout the country which continues to show an encouraging increase every day.

"In July and August, the supply of vaccines received will increase by about 16 million doses and vaccine recipients will also increase from almost 250,000 a day to 400,000 a day based on the delivery of vaccines that we have ordered," he added.
